At Adore Scotland we are passionate about supporting our guests to be responsible travellers.
We work closely with Green Tourism to make our properties and ways of working as eco friendly as possible.
The travel industry has a substantial role to play in climate change and it is our goal at Adore Scotland to help create a more responsible tourism industry in Scotland.
To help you to be an eco-conscious traveller when you travel to Scotland we have compiled a list of simple ways that you can support the local & global environment on your travels.
A great way to support the environment is not only to use public transport to get to your destination but to make use of public transport at your destination too.
Edinburgh is a fantastic city to explore by bus, with a multitude of bus tours available to show you the city & surrounding areas.
In addition to this, you can easily get around all areas of Edinburgh by bus and most of our properties have bus stops within walking distance.
When you're planning what to do in Scotland, and how to travel around, check out Lothian buses for more information on getting around Edinburgh.
Whether you are looking to stay in a self-catered apartment or a hotel, have a look for properties with the Green Tourism Award.
We are proud to say that Green Tourism is currently in the process of awarding some of our properties & Adore Scotland with their prestigious Green Tourism Award.
Instead of jumping in a car or a taxi why not hire a bike and cycle around your destination.
Or take a trip up into the hills for a more adventurous day.
Edinburgh has a wealth of bike hire companies and some also offer guided tours by bike.
If you’d like to find out more about seeing Edinburgh by bike have a look at these bike hire & bike tour companies:
Another way to be a responsible traveller on your holiday is to eat at local restaurants that use locally sourced produce and work in an eco-friendly way.
Edinburgh has a wealth of independent cafes and restaurants on your doorstep.
Using your travel mug on holiday instead of using disposable and plastic cups at your destination is an easy way to be a responsible traveller.
Be aware of the amount of electricity you are using in your apartment or hotel. Try to switch off lights when you aren’t using them and turn off the TV when you are out.
Washing uses a lot of water and isn’t very environmentally friendly. So try to reuse towels and sheets rather than have them changed every day.
The great news for those of you staying in our apartments is that Scotland as a whole is a great eco-tourism destination.
Keep an eye out for our next blog on eco-friendly things to do in Edinburgh and the surrounding areas when you come and visit.
If you have any other tips on travelling more sustainably we’d love to hear!
