Scotland has a rich and colourful history stetching 10,000 years. The oldest house in Britain is here in Scotland, discovered in a field in South Queensferry when the land was being prepared for the Queensferry Crossing. The site dates from the Mesolithic period, about 10,000 years ago.
Although you can't visit these ancient remains, a trip to South Queensferry should be on your list. Just 20-minutes drive outside Edinburgh city centre, and on the local bus route, you can visit the last town before Edinburgh crosses into Fife.
What makes this location so special, are the 3 iconic bridges that cross from Edinburgh into Fife across the Firth of Forth.
Locals never tire of photographing the bridges, and you'll see why. The Forth Bridge is the oldest of the three, an iconic rail bridge that opened in 1890. Trains still run across the bridge, providing one of the best views of the local area. "
The middle child is the Forth Road Bridge, built to deal with growing trend for private cars. As one of the world’s most significant long-span suspension bridges it is an architectural marvel, and was opened by Her Majesty The Queen on September 4, 1964.
It no longer carries traffic across the waters, and is reserved for taxis, buses, and bikes. This is a bracing and enjoyable stroll for those wishing to walk across the waters.
The baby of the three is The Queensferry Crossing, which opened in 2017. Its innovative design is lit by night, providing the shape of three angels over the Firth of Forth.
Crieff has the enviable position on the edge of the Highlands, offering stunning views and walking routes through the Highlands that would be difficult to match.
Drummond Castle Gardens offers stunning formal terraced gardens, mixing together historical architecture with seasonal flora for a perfect outdoor stroll.
If golf is your sport, you'll love the stunning scenery whilst playing on some of the most highly regarded courses in Scotland St Fillans and Crieff Golf Club.
Crieff is the ideal location to use as a hub, with Perth, Stirling, Pitlochry and the Trossachs all within a short drive. Each of these locations will open your senses to the real Scotland.
Perth was known as the original capital of Scotland, with over 8,000 years of history to absorb. It's known as the Fair City, after The Fair Maid of Perth (1828) by Sir Walter Scott. But it's not just history that attracts visitors to Perth.
It is a vibrant living city, with independent shops, restaurants and art venues.
Its location gives you ample opportunity to embrace outdoor living. There are plenty of stunning locations around Perth for cycling, hiking, canyoning, and even bungee jumping at Killiecrankie over River Garry.
Stirling is steeped in history, and many who come to visit Stirling Castle to understand the Wars of Scottish Independence.
Stirling Castle is home to the Historiscope Prototype, an Augmented Reality viewing scope for heritage sites. The Historiscope offers the opportunity to view historical sites as they were, introducing people, missing or reconstructed architecture, and experiences.
Pitlochry attracts walkers from across the globe, who stroll through the quaint town to visit one of their many teashops and sample local baking.
Visitors to the Highlands will have the opportunity to sample the locally made whiskey, as well as the gins and vodkas that are produced across Scotland.
Pitlochry whiskeys are mellow and smooth, and like other distilleries, you can book a tour to understand more about the production and varieties.
