Rural chic- an ancient building converted to a high standard of quality and simplicity with amazing views, beautiful art work and peace.
This historic barn has been re-imagined to balance the magic of the past with modern amenities, including chic furnishings and decor, vibrant splashes of colour, original stone architecture finishes, and an outdoor patio.
Buteland Farm has the unique advantages of being nestled in the Pentland Hills whilst being only ten miles from Edinburgh city centre. The surroundings offer peace and tranquility where the local flora and fauna can be enjoyed in abundance.
Interior layout The Hayloft offers self-catering accommodation for four, specifically it is only ten miles from Edinburgh and yet also situated in a peaceful rural location.
This holiday flat sleeps four in a double bedroom with en-suite wash basin and toilet as well as a twin room. The bright airy living space is noteworthy for its incorporation of artworks by local artists. While most importantly maintaining the original stone walls and exposed timber beams.
The log burning stove provides warmth and comfort during a winter break. We provide a basket of seasoned logs because we want you to be able to light the fire as soon as you return from a winter walk in the Pentland hills.
Furthermore there is a family bathroom with full sized bath and over bath electric shower. This room is tastefully decorated in slate grey with blue and gold tiles. In addition there is a garden with patio, table, chairs and a BBQ. And equally relevant in Edinburgh, off-road parking.
Exterior The Hayloft forms part of a grade B listed Hayloft and horsemill and sits in an acre of garden which in turn is surrounded by fields and the Pentland hills beyond. A great base for travelling through central Scotland as we are only 15 minutes from the M8 and M9 and the city bypass.
You can walk or cycle in to the Pentland hills from the gate or take the water of Leith walkway and walk or cycle the 13 miles to Leith. There is a garden table and 4 chairs and a BBQ for guest use.

Wow..The Hayloft was amazing. From booking the property to leaving has been a pleasure. We had excellent communication with Susan and a pleasure to meet as well. The property its self was lovely and clean, views were really nice. The quality of the property was excellent and the finishing touches made the stay that extra bit special. Can’t thank Chris and Susan enough, would recommend to anybody. Thank you and hope to see you again.
The Hayloft Edinburgh was our first stop after leaving Australia in what was a six week tour of the UK and Europe. Without doubt the Hayloft became the bench mark to which every subsequent premises was compared. This first stop was important to our family as Christmas was to be enjoyed here. We could not have been more impressed. A Christmas tree sat in the window decorated with ornaments and lights. Festive table runners were supplied and the outside of the premises was adorned with sparkling lights. There was even homemade fruit mince pies(YUM) and a gift waiting for us. These efforts ensured that our family had the perfect Christmas. The accommodation itself is wonderful. Parking space is supplied. The rural setting is ideal and the bedrooms, bathroom and kitchen/living areas are designed with cosy relaxation in mind. Small details such as a well equipped kitchen and a deep bath round off the experience. Chris and Susan really are the perfect hosts. We loved having a Christmas drink with their family on Christmas day. The Hayloft will certainly see our family again....future visits to Scotland are already planned. Pure Christmas Bliss in Scotland
Hayloft was the best accommodation experience across our winter Scotland and England family holiday 2018/2019. Hayloft had good functional facilities and some homey touches of luxury too. With lovely seasonal additions like outside winter lights, a miniature Christmas tree and Hogmanay food and drink treats from hosts, Susan and Chris, we really felt we were on a festive holiday! Ultimately it was a family friendly and cosy atmosphere to return to each day of our stay. We loved it; thank you again.
