Relax in the stylish bathroom, complete with a powerful shower, underfloor heating, a heated towel rail, and classic Heritage fittings. A hairdryer is also provided.
Papple Steading’s commitment to sustainability shines through. The kitchen features eco-friendly equipment and wooden utensils, while the property is heated via an advanced heat transfer pump system, ensuring warmth without harming the planet.
For larger gatherings, Papple Steading offers four adjoining properties—Shepherd’s Bothy, Ploughman’s Bothy, Grieve’s Cottage, and Papple Farmhouse—accommodating up to 20 guests. Whether you're planning a family celebration, a getaway with friends, or a corporate retreat, this is the perfect setting.
-Booking Requirements-
One member of the booking party must be over 25 years. We require names and ages of all guests, as well as proof of address and ID of the lead guest. This is required within 2 days of booking.
We will require the lead guest to sign a copy of our terms and conditions. We reserve the right to vet any booking.
Our properties are protected by Truvi (previously known as SuperHog), the digital trust platform that enables Hosts, Operators and Guests to confidently transact in the short-term rentals space.
Please note that once you have booked, you will be contacted by Truvi directly to verify yourself and process a £250 damage deposit or £35 damage waiver. The damage deposit payment will incur a £10 fee. This Truvi verification must be completed two weeks prior to check-in.
Interior layout All rooms are conveniently located on the ground floor.
The open-plan living area features a handcrafted oak kitchen, a two-oven electric Aga, a fridge-freezer, a microwave, a half-size dishwasher, a Belfast sink, and a collection of cookery books.
Unwind in the cosy lounge with a two-seater sofa, an armchair, a Chippendale-style Windsor chair, and a Smart TV. A charming antique dining table seats two, while French doors lead to a private terrace, inviting in fresh country air.
The bedroom offers a versatile 3’ zip-and-link bed, configurable as a super king or twin beds. A bespoke handmade cupboard provides hanging space, shelving, suitcase storage, and a full-length mirror, ensuring a comfortable stay.

Exterior Step through the French doors to a private terrace overlooking the paddock, complete with a bistro table, two chairs, and a summer-use BBQ. A partial screen separates it from Ploughman’s Bothy’s terrace.
Guests can enjoy shared amenities, including a spacious paddock ideal for football, rounders, yoga, or picnics. Gather around the fire pit under the ruins of Papple Convent (dating back to 1458) for marshmallow roasting and storytelling.
The cart shed offers entertainment with table tennis and table football. Children will love the woodland play area, featuring wooden follies, picnic shelters, bridges, swings, and an abundance of wildlife, from owls and hares to badgers and newts. A fruit patch brims with strawberries, currants, gooseberries, and raspberries.
Papple Steading’s 18-acre estate includes woodland trails and a wildflower meadow—perfect for peaceful walks and nature spotting.
Located in breath-taking countryside, Shepherd’s Bothy is an excellent base for exploring the local area. Discover dramatic coastlines, scenic walking and cycling routes, world-class golf courses, and charming historic villages. For a cultural fix, Edinburgh is just a 45-minute drive or a 25-minute train journey from nearby Drem Station, 10 miles away.
Accessibility statement The accommodation is all on the ground floor, however the bathroom has shower over bath and therefore is not suitable for people with mobility issues.
