An Dòbhran is the Scottish Gaelic for the otter and is pronounced An Doh-run. The cottage is ideal for a wide range of guests, including couples, families with older children, outdoor enthusiasts, bird-watchers, or anyone looking to get away for a self-catering holiday cottage on the west coast of Scotland, and in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. Perfectly situated for touring Skye, Glenelg, Applecross and even trips to Inverness and Fort William.
Eco-friendly, with underfloor heating and hot-water provided by an air source heat pump, it also incorporates an EV charger, and is fully equipped for your holiday. We aim to equip our home to a high standard and to anticipate your needs by providing all the things you might want for a luxurious stay. There are local guides, maps, books on wildlife, and an interesting selection of novels for any rainy day. We also provide binoculars for otter and bird spotting!
There's three different sitting areas - at the front where you can overlook the sea; the open plan sitting/dining/kitchen area and the mezzanine - so plenty of room to spread out and relax in peace as well as a cosy sitting room gathered round the traditional fireplace.
The cottage is graded 5 star by VisitScotland and we've achieved Gold award from Green Tourism so quality is guaranteed.
Interior layout Step into our enchanting retreat, where the entrance welcomes you with an ample porch and cosy sitting space with stunning views over the sea loch and the hills opposite.
As you venture further, the open plan living-dining-kitchen space unfolds, inviting you to relax and unwind, with our kitchen, fully equipped for culinary adventures. Opposite the sitting room is the twin or super kingsize bedrooms and also downstairs is a spacious shower room and toilet, again step-free making it easy access.
Upstairs, there is a spacious mezzanine floor equipped with a desk for home working or just planning the next day's outing. Then walk into the master bedroom, with a full ensuite, featuring a bath and rain shower for full relaxation.

Exterior This architect-designed house provides comfort and spectacular views. Built in a traditional West Highland style by the owner, the cottage sits just back from the sea with its ever changing views. Private parking and garden with seating for 4. From the garden, you are a stone's throw from the sea with all the wildlife that is on the shore or in the water and across the water are the hills and mountains of Lochalsh. As the sea is tidal, the view constantly changes as the tide goes in and out. It's an ideal place to relax and take in the special scenery that we have in this beautiful corner of the Scottish Highlands. A very short walk from the cottiage is the local hotel - great food, pub and also live music during the summer - and alittle further on is the historic Eilean Donan Castle. Equipped with an EV charger for your own use.
Accessibility statement The property is suitable for people with limited mobility as there is a ramp access, all door openings are at least 900mm, all of the ground floor which includes sitting room, dining area, kitchen, shower room with toilet and double bedroom has no steps.
There's room for 2 cars beside the cottage and parking is free for guests.
We loved our stay, the house is stunniong. I have loved reading in the nook near the front door, watching the tide and the wildlife. We spent some time relaxing at the end of our trip around the Highlands. We hope to be back!

I cannot recommend a stay here highly enough, beautiful location, hotel and pub a short walk away, easy access for the Isle of Skye and Eilean Donan. We have stayed around this location many times and were very sad to leave.
We had a fabulous Christmas at An Dòbhran. The croft was modern, warm, comfortable, spacious, immaculately clean, the kitchen very well equipped and perfect for 4 adults. Duncan and Shona had left a welcome package of bread, milk and eggs and also a box of chocolates under the tree as a present, very thoughtful. Great communication beforehand, Duncan answering all of my questions and providing information.

A wonderful stay!
Everything was so comfy and incredibly considered.
We went to the Three Chimneys on Skye and would highly recommend the lovely beach walk on Coral beach afterwards.
The Applecross Pass isn't for the faint-hearted but the reward in the Applecross Inn was worth it!
We spotted a dog otter, 2 whitetail eagles, a couple of seals and many smaller sea birds all from the croft's fantastic advantage spot.
Thank you so much for a wonderful stay.

This home will always hold a special place in our hearts as we spent a few days here surrounding our wedding at Eilean Donan. The views surrounding the home are incredible and were so nice to wake up to. Thank you for creating such a warm and cozy place to stay.

What else can we add to all the past superlatives..... so "a star shines brightly on Dornie; An Dòbhran in particular". Magical!

We have had a wonderful stay in Dornie, encountering all seasons. The lovely view from the house is a source of constant interest. Congratulations to Duncan and Shona for getting this house so right on lots of levels. Very comfortable and relaxing!

We have had a great week in this beautifully designed house. I've loved sitting in and gazing out and we had some great days out in Plockton, Applecross and up the Dornie valley. Thank you!

What a beautiful time we spent in the lovely cosy house. We enjoyed our stay and the rough Highland weather as well.

We've just had a wonderful week at Shona and Duncan's beautiful croft, it is even better than the photos online and the views from the windows are perfection and run for miles and miles.
Shona and Duncan couldn't have been more helpful - but discreet, there if we needed them and nowhere to be seen if we were okay!
There are beautiful walks and days out all over the area and the cottage is well equipped for cooking in, although there are local pubs and restaurants too. We've had the best week, and are already planning our return! One thing for those that may not be quite so mobile - there's a downstairs king-sized bedroom and walk-in shower and the whole of the downstairs of the house is fully accessible, including access to the house.

This was an amazing stay at a fantastic property with outstanding views. The Scottish biscuits went down a treat with my Canadian relatives. The owners were very friendly and we enjoyed meeting them. They were also kind enough to share a family photo which my auntie found fascinating since it linked with the history of Eilean Donan Castle. The Dornie Hotel serves a lovely Thai curry. The cookies and bread from Manuela's Wee Bakery are also recommended. We will be recommending the property and returning to it at some point in the future.

Stunning place to stay and just outside of Skye. right on the water with a lovely pub that is an easy distance away. We saw live music Tuesday and Thursday and the food was fantastic. Couldn't have asked for a more peaceful getaway. Clean and well-appointed, we have everything we needed.

I'm so sad we had to leave. I actually thought about cancelling our plans the last day we were there so I could sit at the window and watch the water and the birds. Duncan was great and always answered my questions. The decor is so lovely. I especially loved the window coverings, wildlife pillows and wall art. The heated floors were lovely. I don't have one negative thing to say and I hope we can go back and stay much longer. Thank you Duncan and Shona!
