Welcome to Redroofs — a place where time slows down, comfort embraces you, and nature gently restores your spirit. Nestled in the rolling countryside of Angus, Scotland, Redroofs offers a sanctuary for rest, relaxation, and restoration. Our holiday cottage and two glamping cabins are each beautifully styled, combining simple luxury with calm, nature-infused surroundings. This is the perfect holiday home - gorgeous, spacious, and in a brilliant location for touring the area. Inside, the sense of quality is enhanced by stylish bedrooms and a spacious living/dining room featuring high ceilings and a large double sided wood burner, perfect for those chillier days.
Our indoor pool (available from May to September) adds another opportunity for relaxation or fun.
The house and surrounding area are steeped in World War I history, as it was once a World War I military hospital for soldiers, and Montreathmont Forest was the location of the Montreathmont Camp Radio Station in World War II and as Airship Station in WWI. The listening radio station began as a secret listening post and codebreaking centre, which operated as an outstation of Bletchley Park during World War II and continued to monitor communications during the Cold War. Remains of the site can still be seen today.
The forest is also home to a host of wildlife, including the elusive capercaillie, as is nearby Balgavies Loch which is a birdwatcher’s paradise, where waders, ducks, geese and osprey are often sighted. This part of the world is a hidden gem, as there is the wonderful scenery of the Angus Glens, as well as sandy beaches at Montrose, Lunan and St Cyrus, and all within very easy reach. There are excellent travel links to all the main cities, Dundee, Perth, and Aberdeen are all within an hour’s drive, while the local towns of Forfar, Kirriemuir, Montrose and Carnoustie have lots of local attractions and leisure activities, including excellent golf, tennis and cycling. Beach 12 miles.

This property is exceptionally spacious and comfortable. The decor is tasteful and of superior quality. The hosts, Lyndsay and Ian are warm and welcoming. The bonus of an indoor heated pool for our private use was a winner!Loads of walks and interesting things to explore close by. Highly recommend Balnuith Alpacas at Tealing.Hope to return to RedRoofs by the Woods later in the season

We had a wonderful stay! The cottage was beautifully decorated with so many thoughtful touches – the map wallpaper and book-themed wall created the perfect cosy reading nook. Everything was so well equipped, and the beds were incredibly comfy – we slept better than we have in ages! A lovely, peaceful place to unwind.

Beautifully decorated throughout cottage in a peaceful location. It allowed us to relax in the south facing garden, but also see local attractions, cities and beaches.

Redroofs was one of the best cottages ŵe have ever very stayed at. Everything was perfect. The cottage had everything you need for a holiday, great owners., spotless, very comfortable the owners even had a stock of things you had forgotten to pack. We have just returned from four nights at this amazing property. Ian and Lindsey were such lovely welcoming hosts. Redroofs is set in the most beautiful area, with amazing views and lovely gardens. It’s handy for so many places to visit but also amazing if you just want to kick back, relax and enjoy the view. There fabulous forest walks just outside the property and even an on site swimming pool. The property is equipped with everything you could possibly need for a super comfortable stay. The quality of the interior is of an incredibly high standard and so comfortable. We will most definitely be returning 😊
