From the moment you pass through the old stone gate, a deep sense of calm takes over. The colours of the garden shift with the seasons, and the home’s warm, mid-century aesthetic immediately envelops you in a feeling of total relaxation.
Leuchie Walled Garden is more than a holiday home - it’s a destination in its own right. Originally the gardener’s cottage to the grand Leuchie estate, this remarkable property was reimagined in the 1960s by renowned Scottish architect Sir James Dunbar-Nasmith. Painstakingly restored, the house is now an inspiring blend of modernist architecture and timeless Scottish charm, set within five acres of secluded gardens originally built by Napoleonic prisoners of war.
History lovers will enjoy uncovering the home’s fascinating family provenance - ten generations of the Dalrymple family have lived in North Berwick since 1698, and heirlooms and portraits throughout the house tell their story.
This is a haven for golfers too, with world-class courses nearby and views out to the Bass Rock. Each room has its own personality, full of colour and natural light. Whether you’re enjoying a match on your private tennis court, wandering through ancient trees, or watching the children play in their own secret garden, you’ll find this is a place that stays with you long after your visit ends.
Interior layout The Secret Walled Garden comfortably sleeps up to 12 guests across six individually styled bedrooms - three in the Garden Wing and three in the Cottage Wing - making it ideal for extended families, groups of friends, or executive retreats.
The heart of the home is an expansive, light-filled kitchen and dining area, perfect for gathering and entertaining. A separate drawing room with a baby grand piano, a cosy TV room, and a snooker room offer multiple spaces to relax and reconnect. The layout is predominantly ground floor and includes an accessible suite, making it suitable for guests with reduced mobility.

Exterior The home enjoys a prime location with easy access to the charming and ever-popular seaside town of North Berwick, known for its stylish coffee shops, independent boutiques, and top-quality restaurants. And with Edinburgh less than an hour away, you’re perfectly placed to enjoy both coastal relaxation and the buzz of Scotland's capital.
That said, you may find little reason to leave the estate at all. Within the historic walled garden, a world of activities awaits. Pack your tennis racquets for a match on your private court, gather the family for a friendly game of snooker or table tennis, or enjoy more leisurely pursuits like croquet, boules, or a few swings at the two-hole pitching range. After a gentle stroll through the manicured gardens, younger guests will be thrilled to explore what feels like their own enchanted secret garden - hours of adventure and imagination await.
If you’re drawn to the sea, bring your wetsuit or paddleboard, as the beach is less than a mile away. Prefer a slower pace? Simply pack a towel and enjoy sunbathing, paddling, or a seaside picnic in one of Scotland’s most picturesque coastal spots.
